Top 10 Best Breakup Movies To Help You Feel Better After A Breakup

[Updated 1/18/22]

I’ve spent a lot of time in front of the TV when I’ve been broken up with.

Comfy couch, comfy oversized sweater, fuzzy socks, Ben & Jerry's New York Super Chunk Fudge, and movies I watched over and over again.

OK maybe I didn’t “love” watching movies 24/7 but it was a nice form of self care for a while to help get my mind off of my ex.

Now while most of these are comedies, I can tell you that I was NOT in the mood to first…but when watching the same movie for the 10th time, somehow it got funny!

Let’s get started with my favorite breakup movies that’ll make you feel better after a breakup:

Top 10 Best Breakup Movies To Help You Feel Better After A Breakup

  1. "He’s Just Not That Into You"  This movie has some great points that sometimes we need to hear.  “If he’s not calling you, he’s not into you.”

  2. "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" Guaranteed to make you laugh or at the very least smirk!  PS if this dude can get over a breakup, you sure can!  A movie bound to make you feel better just because the breakup and circumstances are BAD.

  3. "Under The Tuscan Sun"  A movie that inspires traveling and gives hope, all with a very romantic story line.  I also love carbs and pasta so this movie made me gain an appetite back.

  4. "Eat, Pray, Love"  For all you travelers out here, this movie makes me so motivated for change, self love, and adventure.  Julia Roberts is the main character so you can assume the acting is on point!

  5. "Bridesmaids" Oh Bridesmaids!  Bridesmaid was my binge movie.  I played it EVERYDAY for probably 30 days in a row after class.  For some reason, it was so comforting to see Kristen Wiig reach rock bottom ("hey! My life isn’t THAT bad I thought", haha).

  6. "How To Be Single" As soon as you told your gal friends your relationship was over, did they drag you to the nearest club to get wasted and meet new people? Well, this is a fun movie starring Dakota Johnson with a bit of that and probably a bunch you can relate to if you are in your 20's or 30's.

  7. "500 Days of Summer"  Although the whole time I was rooting for Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel to end up together (oops spoiler alert), it teaches a great lesson that you can’t force someone to love you.  A very unique movie I’d say!

  8. "The Holiday"  A pretty unrealistic one but I definitely was envious of Cameron Diaz… I mean how cute is that cabin!? Oh and Jude Law...  A story about two different women, worlds apart going through a tough breakup who end up with a happy ending!

  9. "Silver Linings Playbook"  This is probably my favorite movie of ALL TIME!  Besides that I love Jennifer Lawrence, this movie was so unique in comparison to the million of love stories out there.  I love the genuineness of the story line, how it unfolds, and on top of that the acting was amazing.  Pure, romantic, and unusual.

  10. "The Ugly Truth"  A douchey male that ends up with a beautiful, kind woman - not really a romantic movie when it’s put that way but for all you hopeless romantics out there, this is for you!  I also love all of Katherine Heigl's movies and found this one to be quite entertaining.
